Our Story

Myers Industries traces its roots to 1933, when brothers Meyer and Louis Myers opened Myers Tire Supply in a small storefront in Akron, Ohio. Guided by the slogan, “Everything for the Tire Dealer,” they were dedicated to growing the business with a balance of modesty and strategic foresight.

Becoming Myers Industries

That entrepreneurial spirit fueled rapid growth. Through domestic and international expansion, MTS grew into the nation’s largest distributor of tools and supplies for the tire and wheel service industry. By 1946, the brothers entered plastics manufacturing and founded Patch Rubber Company and Akro-Mils, which shaped the future of the enterprise. Continued growth and diversification also led to a name change in 1963, when Myers Tire Supply became Myers Industries.

Expanding the Plastics Portfolio

In the decades that followed, Myers continued to expand its plastics platform, building a portfolio of innovative, sustainable, market-leading Products that Protect™ across a wide range of material-handling applications. Strategic acquisitions—including Buckhorn (1987), Ameri-Kart (1995), Jamco (2012), Scepter (2014), Elkhart Plastics (2020), and Signature Systems (2024)—have strengthened the Company’s manufacturing capabilities and global reach.

Looking Towards the Future

Today, more than 90 years later, the “everything” in the Company’s original slogan carries new meaning. After divesting its distribution business in 2026, Myers operates in a new era—one defined by a simplified portfolio, sharper strategic alignment, and focus on its core plastics manufacturing businesses.
